The Academy of American Poets has partnered with New Visions for Public Schools to host a series of three meetups for a small group of high school English and Social Studies teachers. At each meetup, a poet will share his or her work and teachers will have the opportunity to take a deep dive into one or two poems on the subject.

Theme for December 3rd Meetup: Identity
Participating Poet: Brooklyn-based poet, Rachel Eliza Griffiths, is the author of three poetry collections: Mule & Pear (New Issues Poetry & Prose, 2011), which was selected for the 2012 Inaugural Poetry Award by the Black Caucus American Library Association; The Requited Distance (The Sheep Meadow Press, 2011); and Miracle Arrhythmia (Willow Books, 2010). Also a visual artist, Griffiths is the creator of Poets on Poetry (P.O.P), an intimate series of interviews, which gathers more than fifty contemporary poets together in conversation to discuss poetry in relation to individual human experience and culture. Rachel will read and discuss some of her poems related to theme of identity.
